Breezer 2013 Update 5 available for download

Today we released another Breezer 2013 update, the counter is now set to 5 updates since 1st June.

We are very proud of this release, because our testers (both internal and external) have reported many bugs as well as suggestions about the user experience. With this release we hope to solve most of their complaints.

Also we take also the opportunity to integrate changes that in previous release weren't ready in the beta bits.

Changes to the tag engine

We work hard to improve the predictability and usability of the tag-related features, we solve circa 30 major/minor bugs plus we add some interesting features. The first change is that now a single click selects the tag for search, usual keyboard gestures (ctrl+click or shift+click to remove or add a tag to the filter) are still here, but now with one click you can select a folder, preview a sample and select a tag.

Now you could limit the search scope to a specified folder or to the entire tag database. When browsing only by tag the file system view is automatically disabled.

Another important feature is the file view grouping which groups the tag-search result by folder. Also we make easier to extend, or not, the search to the selected tags and their child.

Those options are grouped in the new "Tag options" panel, available in the tag library. It's a popup, so when you don't need it will not eat up precious screen real estate.

Tag creation

Another element we improved a lot is the "Tag properties" window, which didn't work well in previous releases. Now you could choose when creating a new tag to create it as a child of the selected tag or as a root via a simple check box. The name and its properties are now always in sync between the library an the properties window, and when using the "save and create new" button the new window opens centered in the screen (and not elsewhere).

Below you could see how the above features look like.

General usability improvements

The usability was a top priority in the Update 5 time frame so we review nearly every aspect of Breezer for usability problems. We make clear some UI elements like the check boxes and radio buttons, the text search options panel was improved a lot, and the file view header is now more clear with a more smart column auto-sizing algorithm.

A huge work was done in the audio engine which is now more fast and less resource hungry, and I can anticipate that the engine is now ready to support VST effects. Were working with other companies to deliver in the future (after Breezer 2013 RTM) an update with VST effect support. When things are more clear we will post about.

As usual the the update is available here. Remember that you must uninstall previous version, don't worry for your database, it will be preserved while upgrading.

What's next

In the next release we concentrate to performances, bugs and the usability. We will also shift the time bomb from September to November so you'll have more time to try Breezer freely.

Next update is scheduled for August 31.

Suzy Rossi
